Recording Device Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+

The Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ is an external audio and video recorder.

The Odyssey 7Q + is the newest monitor/recorder from Convergent Design. The device is 4K-capable, has a 7.7-inch, touch-sensitive OLED display which operates at 1280x700 pixels. The unit is slim, weighs 560g and is designed for use in a compact handheld rig.

The Odyssey 7Q + provides picture monitoring as well as recording, and features the ability to display a down converted 4K signal. The Odyssey also comes with its own FalseColor, Zebra, Waveform, and histogram control tools. This device supports HD SDI, 1.5G, 3G and 6G via standard BNC connectors. The recorder also supports single-, dual-, and quad-link inputs for HD to 4K feeds. The recorder also supports 4K in 10-bit 4:2:2 via the HDMI input.

The device supports sychronised recording, via an SDI-triggered recording function that is supported on Sony, Canon and Panasonic cameras. The SDI and HDMI interfaces enable recording on a large number of video cameras or DSLRs, allowing older cameras to record onto modern codecs, without the need for tape or optical discs.  Convergent Design specifies the use of premium Samsung 2.5 inch SSDs with "Power-loss Protection" in 4 sizes up to 1TB. Writing with 420MB/s these memory cards are very robust performers.  The unit records ProRes in 10 or 12 bit and uncompressed DPX in 10 or 12 bits. Recording in RAW formats is also supported.

On board there are LUTs for ARRI, Blackmagic Design, Canon, Panasonic and Sony. In addition to the existing LUTs it is possible to create your own LUTs in the .cube format for import.  RAW recording is supported via an additional licence, available as an upgrade.

The RAW recording supports ARRIRRAW (ALEXA Classic), Canon Cine RAW (C300 MK2, C500), Sony FSRAW (FS5, FS7, FS700) Indycam RAW and IO Industries RAW.
