Assimilate Scratch

Assimilate SCRATCH is an end-to-end colour correction and dailies workflow tool with extensive functionality.

The functions are conforming colour corrected material, compositing and finishing.

It is used on-set for dailies and grading, providing a single tool for a total end-to-end workflow using just one piece of software.

At the heart of the SCRATCH toolset is the colour correction software which includes a full ACES implementation and stereoscopic 3D grading features. SCRATCH provides resolution-independent workflows (limited by the graphics card, the software can go up to 64K) and supports a variety of image formats.

Virtually every RAW format can be imported natively, including formats like RAW Kinefinity. After colour correction has been performed, SCRATCH provides comprehensive tools for Versioning and Finishing.

SCRATCH is one of the few software manufacturers to offer Windows integrated ProRes encoding.

Using XML metadata, it is possible to integrate other applications such as Nuke into SCRATCH providing the ability to handle more complex workflows.

MyAssimilate’ is a set of tools that, when combined with SCRATCH enables a cloud-based workflow that acts like a local pipeline. There are four key tools for MyAssimilate: ‘Project Repository’, ‘Scratch Web’, ‘Remote’, and ‘Galleries’.

SCRATCH provides an extensive set of video tutorials, an online knowledge base, an active online community and worldwide technical support.

SCRATCH runs on Windows 7 64-bit or higher, or Mac OSX 10.7 or later. An i7 Quad core processor, NVIDIA Quadro or AMD FirePro graphics card, and 12GB RAM are recommended system requirements. There are multiple video output cards supported from NVIDIA, AJA, Bluefish444 and Blackmagic.

SCRATCH Play offers a free player software with cloud integration. Although SCRATCH Play is fully integrated into the SCRATCH family of products, it can also be used independently to view a whole range of different material.

SCRATCH Play supports a large number of 2D and 3D image formats including RAW camera files from RED, ARRI, Sony, Canon, Phantom, CinemaDNG, SI-2K and Kinefinity as well as DSLR RAW from Canon and Nikon. Additionally, it plays sequences or individual frames of DPX, EXR, PNG, JPG, TIFF and Web formats such as H264 or MP4 as well as production formats like MXF. It can also read memory cards that contain both motion and still image media.

ASC CDL colour correction tools are available and Looks can be exported as CDL, LUTs or JPG snapshots. In addition, SCRATCH Play is also able to display all the metadata from different camera sources. Quality control, Look creation and media management are all provided in this free tool.

SCRATCH Play requires a minimum operating system of Windows 7 64bit or higher, or MacOSX 10.7.5 or later, at least 4GB of RAM and a powerful GPU from NVIDIA or AMD.

SCRATCH Web is a multi-platform tool that works on a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

Images for dailies and review are securely streamed from the cloud; this service from Assimilate is hosted on the Microsoft Cloud.

The application offers a variety of collaborative tools that are particularly suited to SCRATCH and SCRATCH Play, allowing production team members and reviewers to share finished shots, or work in progress, along with associated comments directly through SCRATCH Web and onto selected groups of users.

The SCRATCH cloud-based timeline allows you to publish your local timeline to a corresponding cloud-based timeline on your SCRATCH Web channel. It is simple and secure and can be done with the click of a single button.

SCRATCH Web supports any modern Internet Browser. Although the 360° features are only supported on:

Windows: Chrome, Firefox, Edge

OSX: Chrome, Firefox

Android: Chrome, Firefox

Assimilate has been developing post-production tools for 360° visual content with its SCRATCH VR Suite for several years.

SCRATCH VR, which contains SCRATCH Web as an integral part of the product, offers comprehensive workflows for immersive media, 360° video and VR content with Head Mounted Displays.

Oculus Rift is supported (Development Kit II), but only for Windows devices as Apple does not provide support for Oculus Rift on Mac. HTC Vive is supported on both Windows and Mac.

SCRATCH VR provides an ‘end-to-end’ VR workflow especially designed for post production. Assimilate developed their own toolset to process 360° video/VR visual content. Post production can use the integration of SCRATCH Web into SCRATCH VR to remotely review current work and it supports VR headsets – Oculus Rift (Development Kit II) on Windows only, and Google Cardboard-enabled smartphones or Samsung Gear VR on any platform.

SCRATCH VR Suite runs on Windows 7 64-bit or higher, or Mac OSX 10.7 or later. Note that the OSX version does not have Oculus support but does support HTC Vive. Minimum system requirements include an i7 Quad core processor or above, NVIDIA Quadro or AMD FirePro graphics card, and 12GB RAM memory is recommended. There are multiple video output cards supported from NVIDIA, AJA, Bluefish and Blackmagic.
