Colorfront On-Set Dailies

Is a dedicated colour correction system, designed for fast and secure processing of complex projects involving large amounts of data.

The tool is aimed at large film productions managing huge amounts of RAW image data, in multiple locations for VFX post production or TV-series production, that require faster than real time deliveries in common file formats.

Formats and workflow

On-Set Dailies offers extensive format support including RAW formats from cinematography camera manufacturers such as Canon, ARRI , Sony , RED , Blackmagic, Phantom, MagicLantern RAW, and SI-2K. Additional formats include GoPro and DSLR native formats as well as standard DPX, ProRes and DNxHD files.

Metadata exchange formats such as QTake XML, ARRI Alexa XML, Codex XML, and broadcast audio BWAV are additionally supported. Optics metadata such as the ARRI Lens Data System and Cooke’s /i optics metadata are also recognised by On-Set Dailies.

In addition to colour correction and quality control of the above file formats, it is also possible to quickly and accurately synchronise all imported images and associated timecode to corresponding audio data.

Additional metadata such as quality control review or director’s comments can be added and several different delivery formats can be rendered out simultaneously and often faster than real-time. Delivery formats such as DNxHD, ProRes, H264 and DVD or BluRay disc images are included.

COPRA is seamlessly integrated into On-Set Dailies allowing selected clips to be streamed as HD video over a local WiFi network from an On-Set Dailies system directly to an iPad.

The On-Set Dailies tool has the power for data-intensive workflows such as debayering 4K material and exporting a variety of formats without significant loss of speed. The graphical user interface has been reduced in favour of keyboard shortcuts which takes a little getting used to at first but is good for fast results.

Hardware Requirements

On-Set Dailies is supported on Windows or Apple Mac platforms.
Windows:
The setup should feature an HP Z820 Workstation with Windows 7 64-bit, dual 6 or 8-core processors and at least 24GB RAM.
For all image processing a CUDA-enabled NVIDIA GeForce 690 or a Tesla C2050 is recommended.
An AJA Kona, DVS Atomix or NVIDIA Quadro 4000 SDI output card should be used to view images on a broadcast monitor. On-Set Dailies also supports RED Rocket cards.

Apple Mac

If using a Mac, the set-up should feature a Mac Pro with OSX 10.8.1 or higher, dual 4 or 6-core processors with a minimum of 24GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 and SDI video output cards.

All image processing is performed on the CUDA-enabled GPU card whilst all encoding of deliverable files is CPU-based. Without separate RED Rocket cards on board, On-Set Dailies supports CPU debayering of 2K REDCODE RAW material in real-time.

It is recommended to use at least a 27-inch monitor together with an HD-SDI enabled broadcast monitor for colour work and quality control. For optimum speed, it is also advisable to use an external panel – On-Set Dailies supports all panels from Tangent Devices and Euphonix.
