arte Delivery Requirements

Technical guidelines for HDTV to arte.

The complete technical guidelines for the delivery of programming content to arte ("Technical guidelines arte GEIE v1-07), can be found via the link below.

The following parameters represent an overview of these guidelines. These are not legally binding.

Arte accept the following formats / codecs for delivery:

•    AVC-Intra 100, 112 Mbps (4:2:2, 1920 x 1080, 10-bit)
•    XDCAM HD422 , “Long GOP”, 50 Mbps (4:2:2, 1920 x 1080, 8-bit)

AVC-I 100 is regarded as the main format.

Arte defined the following codecs for production of HD materials:

•    AVC-Intra 100, 112 Mbps (4:2:2, 1920 x 1080, 10-bit)
•    DNxHD 185x, 184 Mbps (4:2:2, 1920 x 1080, 10-bit)
•    ProRes HQ, 184 Mbps (4:2:2, 1920 x 1080, 10-bit)
•    XDCAM HD422, “Long GOP”, 50 Mbps (4:2:2, 1920 x 1080, 8 bit) 2
•    AVC-Intra, 112 Mbps (4:2:2, 1280 x 720, 10-bit)

The basic format for delivery of all productions to arte is 1080i25.

The following media will be accepted for delivery:

•    Memory cards or hard drives
•    File transfers

By exception the following will also be accepted:

●    HDCAM SR tapes
●    Professional Disc (XDCAM HD422)

Additional information on Image Quality

A sampling structure of at least 4:2:2 should be delivered, wrapping the video, audio and metadata content in OP1a MXF (*.mxf) files

Additional information on Sound

Arte require audio to be loudness normalised to EBU R 128. This should be considered mandatory in sound mixing. Sound should be supplied in stereo or multichannel sound (Dolby E). The guidelines should be read carefully before mastering the sound.
